Hello, welcome to Andiswa’s Kitchen

My name is Andiswa Skweza.

I am not a Chef but a Cook, I started self-teaching how to cook and bake from an early age of 7\8yrs old – by observing my mother and uncle in the kitchen when they prepared food. Growing up, cooking was not a duty or chore I was expected to do after school or during school holidays, so I kept trying out dishes when no one was watching and would wait for them to be surprised by my food when they get home.

Since then, anything involving food and hosting family and friends gives me great joy, and absolutely stems from my voracious appetite as a child. I have always loved food. When I’m not eating, I’m thinking about food, when I’m not thinking about food I’m reading and researching about food.

I love experimenting with different combinations of flavours and ingredients. I am always planning the next great meal to cook or treat to bake. As a Home Cook I like to believe that every dish I make is a personal expression, with each ingredient being specially selected. I strive to put emotion into my cooking, and I believe this reflects in the taste of the dishes that I prepare. I realise that not every combination I try will be a success, but this is one of the benefits of cooking, I can just wash the dishes, and try again.

No, I’m a home cook and self-taught. And I respect those who have the official credentials and acquired the title.

I cannot think of anything that gives me greater joy and pleasure than cooking for family and friends. Food manages to bring people together, in a way that few other things cannot. Sitting around a table with loved ones, sharing stories and interacting over a delicious meal is particularly important to me – because I truthfully see and experience food as a medium of communication.

Nowadays we share people’s attention with social media, i.e. Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Whatsapp and even emails, that we miss to fully engage with them and be interested in how their day was and\or how things are going in their lives. Consequently, it is my ultimate goal that when I prepare, cook and present food, it gives you no choice but to enjoy yourself wholeheartedly and disconnect from the world to connect with the ones surrounding you, except of course if you want to take a picture of the meal from Andiswa’s Kitchen for your friends to see, later.

Find something you’re passionate about and keep tremendously interested in it.You don’t have to cook fancy or complicated masterpieces – just good food from fresh ingredients. The only real stumbling block is fear of failure. In cooking you’ve got to have a what-the-hell attitude.
