This winter keeps getting more and more cold, we have cold front and surprisingly South Africa got snow. I’m not sure if this a miracle or blessing, but I would like to think it is something beautiful to experience. As long as no one is freezing to death, of course.
Winter is my most favourite season, as it helps me to be more productive and also good for me skin. However, I’ve learned to appreciate and love all seasons.
The stores have very beautiful tomatoes this season, and I wanted to appreciate this special fruit, or is it a vegetable? Hahaa
Experts say that tomatoes are sweet, I’m not sure if it’s just my palate, but I’ve never eaten a sweet tomato or grown one that’s naturally sweet. Although I can’t really describe the actual taste of tomatoes, I know that they can be sweet when cooked with sugar or salt, they are acidic and savoury too.
Not only that, tomatoes are full of antioxidants, they help to fight (or reduce risk) several diseases, such as cancer, heart disease and more.
Tomatoes are also beneficial for skin health. It is also said that tomatoes help to prevent prostate cancer in men.
Tomatoes have Lycopene, which is a type of organic pigment called a carotenoid. It is related to beta-carotene and gives some vegetables and fruits such as tomatoes a red colour. Lycopene is a powerful antioxidant that might help protect cells from damage. It also has properties that improve heart health, cancer, and sunburns.
I made this tomato tart for breakfast; however, it can be made for a party too.
Since it was for breakfast I added some mushrooms too.
